Tver dates back to the 12th century.
It played a very important role in medieval times and seriously rivaled Moscow for dominance in Russia.
Modern Tver is a big industrial, scientific and cultural center, and also a major transport hub.
In the Upper Volga it is the first port, which can be visited by cruise tourists, as above Tver the Volga river is not navigable.

The excursion program in Tver consists of visiting the Museum of Tver dweller’s everyday life
with a walking tour around the city centre: strolling along Volga embankments and bridges, admiring the architecture and taking pictures of different monuments, for instance statue of Afanasiy Nikitin, one of Tver inhabitants who alone traveled to India in the XV century (25 years before the first expedition of famous Vasco da Gama) and left very interesting notes about his journey to that mysterious land.
